1) One of the things that stood out to me is the goal for Michigan to form more public and private partnerships. I think this is a good goal because it sets the path to create more resources for the elderly. This goal shows that the elderly is not forgotten and the state recognize the need to find ways to help them adjust within the elderly community.
2) Another thing that stood out to me was that the last needs assessment was conducted in 1987. Maybe I read incorrectly, but that seems like we are overdue for a needs assessment. The community has change tremendously since then and it is a good thing that they are expanding the needs assessment to including LGBT residents ages 60 and over. This will help provide more education and awareness to the needs in a broad range of older adults.
3) Focusing on engaging our community to become more age friendly was another good point. As a person gets older, it can be challenging for them to keep up and adjust to our fast pace society. Making the community more livable for older adjust can help them hold on to their independence.
4) It was interesting to read that a plan was being created to get more medical students interested in gerontology. I knew we had a shortage of nurses but never realized how big our need was until reading Michigan State plan to figure out a way to maintain the staff they have.
